How To Increase Your Yields In An Organic Garden

How To Increase Your Yields In An Organic Garden

Growing your own organic garden can be a great way to get some clean, healthy produce into your house, while also providing yourself with a relaxing, stress-relieving hobby. If this sounds great, but you aren't sure where to start, don't worry. Read on to find out how to make your own home garden!  Contributing to this article is Judy Neinstein of Toronto.  Follow Judy Neinstein, Toronto at her Wattpad page.

Selecting a climbing plant.

Climbing plants are usually container-grown, although occasionally they are sold as bare-root plants. Choose a healthy looking plant with a good framework of both established stems and new shoots.
Turn the pot over, and check to see if there are any young roots growing out of the holes in the bottom. If so, this means that the plant is well-rooted. Reject any plant that is pot-bound (meaning you can't easily remove it from the pot).

Stinkbugs can be a nuisance in the garden.

These bugs are known to be proliferate in the cooler fall months. Stink bugs like to eat beans, peppers, tomatoes, and all sorts of fruit. They can do serious damage in your garden, so look for an effective method of reducing their population.

Pick garden vegetables often and early.

While immature, many types of vegetables are very tasty in their young phase. Snap peas, little summer squash, cucumbers, and budding broccoli can be picked to keep the plants in a state of reproduction for a longer period of time. This will also increase yields with a second harvest off of the same plants.

Easily dry herbs using your car.

Your car is the perfect place to dry herbs, providing a safe, dry, and warm location. Simply place some newspaper or other protection on a car seat, and arrange the herbs in a single, even layer. Make sure the windows are rolled up, and close up the car. Your herbs will be dry and ready to store. Length of time will depend on the temperature, but can be as little as an hour or two. As a bonus, your car will smell wonderful!

Not only is gardening a great way to grow your own food, but you can also grow your own drink. You can grow apple mint to make a delicious tea or rhubarb stalk to make a tart alternative to lemonade. You should also can or freeze your berries and fruits to make them into soda, hard cider, or wines.

Start your home organic garden today, and soon you'll have plenty of delicious fresh produce, and the satisfaction of knowing that it came from plants you grew with your own hands. Don't hesitate, use the information you've learned now to start building your own organic garden in your home!
